Department of the Environment

The Department of the Environment has made a Statutory Rule entitled The Local Government (Constituting a Joint Committee a Body Corporate) Order (Northern Ireland) 2004 (S.R. 2004 No. 49) coming into operation on 15th March 2004.

The Rule which is made under powers conferred by section 19(9) of the Local Government Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 makes provision for a joint committee, to be constituted a body corporate and to be known as Arc 21.

Arc 21 is to be established for the purposes of implementing the policies set out in the waste management plan for the disposal and recovery of waste.
