ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 2, 4 AND 14

M48 MOTORWAY (SEVERN BRIDGE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF HEAVY GOODS VEHICLES) ORDER 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Secretary of State for Transport has made an Order on 20 May 2025 on the M48 Motorway in South Gloucestershire, the County of Gloucestershire and the County of Monmouthshire because of the likelihood of danger to the public or serious damage to the road.

The effect of the Order would be to prohibit goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in weight from the M48 Severn Bridge.

During the prohibition goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes would be diverted via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.

The prohibition (which would not apply to emergency service or maintenance vehicles), would be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works.

The Order would come into force on 27 May 2025 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
