A request by trust beneficiaries for more information about the trust can’t be brushed aside by trustees, the England and Wales High Court has ruled.

Ernest and Gladys Tamplin bought Panteg Farm, Lisvane, in 1951, and died in the 1980s. The farm was left in trust for their six children, and the sole survivors hold the land as trustees.

However, three of the Tamplin’s grandchildren took the trustees to court, expressing suspicions of being given a raw deal.

Judge Paul Matthews ordered the trustees to disclose a raft of documents concerning their negotiations and dealings regarding the land.

Matthews said, "I do not accept the argument for the trustees that the court should not order disclosure of particular categories of documents merely because in the opinion of the trustees the beneficiaries already have had sufficient information."
