YORKSHIRE DALES NATIONAL PARK (DESIGNATION) (VARIATION) ORDER 2012
LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK (DESIGNATION) (VARIATION) ORDER 2012
Notice is hereby given that the above Orders were made on 17 January 2012, and are about to be submitted to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for confirmation. The effect of the Orders will be to constitute land to which they relate as National Park.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park (Designation) (Variation) Order 2012 relates to an area of approximately 418 square kilometres in the counties of Cumbria and Lancashire, in and around:
• the northern Howgill Fells, Wild Boar Fell, Mallerstang and part of the Orton Fells (all in Eden District); and
• Middleton, Barbon, Casterton and Leck Fells, part of Firbank Fell, part of the Lune Valley and fells to the west (in the districts of South Lakeland and Lancaster City).
If the Order is confirmed by the Secretary of State, its effect will be to designate this land National Park, and to constitute this land as part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The total area of the Yorkshire Dales National Park would then be approximately 2,187 square kilometres in the counties of North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Lancashire.
The Lake District National Park (Designation) (Variation) Order 2012 relates to an area of approximately 70 square kilometres in the county of Cumbria, in and around:
• Birkbeck Fells Common, Bretherdale, Borrowdale, Whinfell, Grayrigg and Dillicar Commons and adjacent land (in Eden District and South Lakeland District); and
• Helsington Barrows to Sizergh Fell and part of the Lyth Valley (in South Lakeland District).
If the Order is confirmed by the Secretary of State, its effect will be to designate this land National Park, and to constitute this land as part of the Lake District National Park. The total area of the Lake District National Park would then be approximately 2,362 square kilometres in the county of Cumbria.
Certified copies of the Orders and the accompanying maps and boundary descriptions have been deposited for public inspection at each of the places mentioned below and will be open for inspection free of charge between 09.30 and 17.00, Mondays to Fridays: Natural England offices at Foundry House, 3 Millsands, Riverside Exchange, Sheffield, S3 8NH; Lake District National Park Authority, Murley Moss, Oxenholme Road, Kendal, LA9 7RL; Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, Bainbridge, Leyburn, DL8 3EL; and by prior arrangement at North Yorkshire County Council, County Hall, Northallerton, DL7 8AD; Cumbria County Council, County Hall, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 4RQ; and Lancashire County Council, County Hall, Preston, PR1 0LD.
Copies of the Orders and maps are also available for download online and at Natural England offices and many libraries close to the affected areas.
