ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTIONS 14 & 15
THE M62 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 25 TO JUNCTION 30) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State for Transport intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway, the M62 Motorway, the M606 Motorway and the M621 Motorway, in the Districts of Bradford, Calerdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield, to enable carriageway construction works to be carried out in safety.
The Order will come into effect on Thursday 1 September 2011 and will remain in force until the works are completed, an estimated period of 2 years and 6 months.
The effect of the Order will be to impose, during the works, a temporary 50mph, and at times a 60mph, speed restriction on:
- i the M62 eastbound carriageway from 3000 metres west of the exit slip road at Junction 25 (brighouse) and 1000 metres east of the entry slip road at Junction 30 (Rothwell), a distance of 29,500 metres;
- ii the M62 westbound carriageway from 2000 metres east of the exit slip road at Junction 30 and 1000 metres west of the entry slip road at Junction 25, a distance of 28,500 metres;
- iii the M62 eastbound and westbound exit and entry slip roads from and including Junction 25 to Junction 30;
- iv the M62 eastbound and westbound exit and entry slip roads connecting with Hartshead Moor Services;
- v the link road connecting the M606 southbound carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Chain Bar;
- vi the link road connecting the M62 eastbound carriageway with the M621 northbound carriageway at Gildersome Interchange;
- vii the link road connecting the M621 southbound carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Gildersome Interchange;
- viii the M1 northbound exit slip road at Junction 42 (Lofthouse);
- ix the link road connecting the M62 eastbound carriageway with the M1 northbound carriageway at Lofthouse Interchange;
- x the link road connecting the M1 northbound carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Lofthouse Interchange; and
- xi the link road connecting the M1 southbound carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Lofthouse Interchange.
ii the M62 westbound carriageway from 2000 metres east of the exit slip road at Junction 30 and 1000 metres west of the entry slip road at Junction 25, a distance of 28,500 metres;
iii the M62 eastbound and westbound exit and entry slip roads from and including Junction 25 to Junction 30;
iv the M62 eastbound and westbound exit and entry slip roads connecting with Hartshead Moor Services;
v the link road connecting the M606 southbound carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Chain Bar;
vi the link road connecting the M62 eastbound carriageway with the M621 northbound carriageway at Gildersome Interchange;
vii the link road connecting the M621 southbound carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Gildersome Interchange;
viii the M1 northbound exit slip road at Junction 42 (Lofthouse);
ix the link road connecting the M62 eastbound carriageway with the M1 northbound carriageway at Lofthouse Interchange;
x the link road connecting the M1 northbound carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Lofthouse Interchange; and
xi the link road connecting the M1 southbound carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Lofthouse Interchange.
During the works the hardshoulders will be used for traffic and vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6′ 6″ or an operating weight exceeding 7.5 Tonnes will also be banned from using specified lanes as indicated by traffic signs.
At other times during the works, it will be necessary to close sections of the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the M62 between Junction 25 and Junction 30, a distance of approximately 25,500 metres, and including the slip and link roads listed above; and the link road connecting the M62 eastbound carriageway with the M606 northbound carriageway at Chain Bar. During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.
Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for traffic officer or winter maintenance purposes).
