NOTICE OF EXTENSIONS TO THE FROME CONSERVATION AREA

MENDIP DISTRICT COUNCIL PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990, SECTION 69

FROME CONSERVATION AREA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under the provisions of the 1990 Act that Mendip District Council has determined that the areas described in the Schedule to this notice are areas of special architectural or historic interest, and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance their character or appearance. It has accordingly extended the Frome Conservation Area so as to include the areas scheduled below.

The principle effects of an area being included within a conservation area are as follows:

  • 1 The Council is under duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area.
  • 2 Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area.
  • 3 Six weeks’ notice must be given to the Council before any works are carried out to any tree in the area.
  • 4 Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.
  • 5 In carrying out any functions under the Planning Acts (and in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area.

Schedule

The following areas are to be brought into the Frome Conservation Area

Part of the Frome Valley including Garston Farm and Garston Farm Cottage

Part of the North side of Portway including Nos. 21-39 Portway, Nos. 1-5 Portway Villas, Wallbridge House and Nos. 1-6 Wallbridge

A plan showing the revisions to the boundary of the conservation area is viewable on the Mendip District Council website or is available for inspection at their offices during normal working hours at Cannards Grave Road, Shepton Mallet, Somerset BA4 5BT.
