PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990 (“THE 1990 ACT”), SECTION 69
LYNDHURST CONSERVATION AREA
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under the provisions of the 1990 Act that New Forest National Park Authority (“the Authority”) has determined that the area described in the Schedule to this Notice is an area of special architectural or historic interest, and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance its character or appearance. Accordingly, on 16 October 2008, it amended the scope of Lyndhurst Conservation Area.
The principal effects of the designation of this area as a conservation area are as follows:
- 1 The Authority is under a duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area.
- 2 The consent of the Authority must be obtained prior to the demolition of any building in the area.
- 3 Additional publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.
- 4 In carrying out any functions under the planning acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Authority and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area.
- 5 Six weeks notice must be given to the Authority before works are carried out to any tree situated within the area.

The boundaries are:
In a clockwise direction, from Romsey Road, east following the fence line to the north of Racecourse View, up to and including land including 19 The Custards, returning west to Racecourse View and then west including land including 9 Racecourse View, then west to Romsey Road to the north of the land of the Mill House. South following the eastern boundary of Romsey Road to the south side of Queens Parade. East and south around and including land including Penny Farthing Hotel, then east along the north boundaries of and including 26 Romsey Road, 3, 5, 7 and 9 Empress Road and south to include land including 9 and 9B Empress Road. East and north along the west boundary of Empress Road, crossing Queens Parade, then east along the north boundary of Queens Parade to its junction with Clarence Road. North along the east boundary of Clarence Road to include land including 2 Clarence Road.
East around the north boundary of 2 Clarence Road up to and including land including Springfield. From the junction with the western boundary with land of 33 Pemberton, north along the west boundaries of 33 to 11 Pemberton Road and 2 The Custards, including all of these properties. Crossing The Custards then west and north along the west boundaries of 1 The Custards and 9 to 1 Pemberton Road, including all these properties. East along the north boundaries of 1 and 2 Pemberton Road. South along the east boundaries of 2 to 36 Pemberton Road and 20 and 18, Empress Road and the Church of our Lord and St Edward including all of these properties. West along the south boundaries of the church, 12 to 4 Empress Road and 12 Romsey Road including all of these properties. South to include land including 1 Wellands Road. Crossing Wellands Road south, in line with the east boundaries of land and including land including 6, 6A, 4, 4A Romsey Road. South, east, south around the south boundaries of 6 and 8 Wellands Road to land including 29 High Street, east along the north boundary of 31 High Street, then north along the west boundary of 33 High Street, continuing around this boundary with Fleur de Lis, north up to the south side of Wellands Road, to include land including 10 Wellands Road. East along the property boundaries with Wellands Road, up to and including land including 20 Wellands Road, south, west and south to include the small plots to the south of 20 Wellands Road, then east along the north boundary of the land and including this land, to the north of 49 and 51 High Street.
East up to and around the southern boundaries of 28, 34, 36 and 38 Wellands Road then north along the east boundary of but not including 38 Wellands Road. East along the south side of Wellands Road to include the land up to Wellands Road and to the north of the Stag Hotel and the public house. Continuing east along the north boundary between garage site and 48 Wellands Road, then south along the east boundary of the garage site. East along the north and east boundaries of and including 87 and 89 High Street. Continuing east along the north boundary of the land between the post office and 97 High Street. North along the west boundaries of 99 and 101 High Street and north and north east along the west boundaries of the next two northerly plots of land. North east turning the west boundary of Sayers, The Orangery, Holmfield House, Link Place and The Dower. East along the northerly boundary of the latter and the car parking to the north of Stable and Gardeners Cottages, south along the east boundary of the car parking up to the fire station site. West along the north boundary of the fire station and the depot, excluding these sites, following south the east boundary of 109 High Street and east the south boundary of 111 High Street, hence excluding the latter. Then following the staggered south boundary of the depot and fire station sites east and then north to enclose the fire station site. East along the northerly boundary of the plots of land to the east of the fire station site, up to the north boundary of the first property fronting Southampton Road. North east along the west boundaries of the land and properties to Queens Road, including all of these up to and again including 31 Queens Road. South along the east boundary of 31 Queens Road, crossing Queens Road and south east along the north and east boundaries of and including 42 Queens Road. East along the north boundary of and including 19 Princes Crescent. North following the west side of Princes Crescent, to include the verge, then crossing Princes Crescent in line with and to run along the north boundary of the land of and including 24. South along the east boundaries of land of and including 24 and 22 Princes Crescent. Continuing south along the east boundary of land of and including 12 Princes Crescent up to the east boundary of the land of Whitemoor House and south west including the land including Whitemoor House up to the junction with the north verge of Southampton Road. East along the north side of the north verge up to the land of Northbrook. North east along the east side of land of Northbrook then east, north west and east around the boundary of but not including the caravan park up to the field boundary.
Continuing east along the north boundary of the land immediately to the north of the Old Police House, then south east to include this land and land including the Old Police House, up to then crossing Southampton Road to the south side of the south verge. South west along the south side of Southampton Road up to the land line immediately south of Princes Crescent. Following this line south east to the junction with the road which leads to the cemetery. East along the north side of the road, north, east, south east and south around and to include the cemetery up to and then following south west the curved landline which meets the southerly track at the widened parking area. East along the track to the end of the widened parking area, then crossing the track and continuing east along its south side up to the curved land line which joins the track. Following west the curved land line up to the track then west to the north of the track up to the road. Crossing the road and then south, west and north around the land of and including Yew Tree Manor, west to include the triangular piece of land to the south of land of Farthings, west along the south boundary of and including Sundew Cottage. West across the road and then north west along the south property boundaries up to the land of Appletree Court, the District Council offices. South and west around the boundary of and including Appletree Court up to the east boundary of 23 Gosport Lane. North along the east boundaries of 23 and 21 Gosport Lane, digressing west then east to include the entrance road to Appletree Court, then north along the east boundaries of 19 and 17 Gosport Lane. North and east around the land of and including Appletree Court Lodge, then north along the west boundary of Appletree Court and north along the west boundary of land of and including Lyndhurst Park Hotel up to the land of 76 High Street. West along the south boundaries of lands to the rear of 76 to 58 High Street, bounding Rufus Court. Then south along the east side of the entrance to Rufus Court, returning west to follow the east side of Gosport Lane, including the east verge, south to a point opposite the south property boundary to South View. West along the south boundary of and including South View, then west along the northern boundaries and south along the western boundaries of the properties to Shaggs Meadow up to the land of the electrical substation off Dearing Close. South and south west around the land of and including the electrical substation. South along the east side of the verge of Dearing Close, then west across Dearing Close at the junction with Great Mead. West along the northern side of the north verge of Great Mead to the junction with Shrubbs Hill Road. South along the east side of the east verge of Shrubbs Hill Road to the land of Bowerholm. East around the land of and including Bowerholm, Magnolia Cottage, Stydd Cottage and the triangular piece of land to the east of Stydd Cottage, then south around and including this triangular piece of land, and land including Stydd Close, Rosewood Cottage, Maple Lodge and Cedar House.
East around land of and including Whitefront and Lynwood, south to a point opposite the entrance to Vernalls Farm, at this point crossing Gosport Lane and south east then south west around the land of and including Vernalls Farm. Continuing south east around the land of and including Vernalls Orchard, High Trees and south east and north west and west around the long strip of land of and including Brooklands, branching west to include land of and including Mark Abbott to the junction with the A337. South along the east boundary of the east verge of the A337 to a point opposite Beechen Cottage. West across the A337, around land of and including Beechen Cottage and Swiss Cottage, and north along the west boundaries of properties on the A337 up to land of and including Old Lodge. North across the A35 and west along the north verge of the A35 up to land of and including Foxlease Terrace. East along the north boundaries of Foxlease Terrace to the west verge of the west side of Shrubbs Hill Road. North along this verge to the east verge of the east side of Sandy Lane. South west along this east verge to a point opposite the west side of the entrance to Sandy Lane Cottage. North across Sandy Lane then south west, north west, north east and east around the land of and including Chart House. East around the land of and including Forest Bank Cottage returning to the west side of the west verge of Shrubbs Hill Road. North of the land of Corylus Cottage then west around the land of and including Corylus Cottage, then east along the south property boundaries of and including Birch Lawn, South Lawns, Tall Trees and Hill House, north around the west boundary of Hill House to the junction with and across Bournemouth Road to the north side of the north verge and east to include all of the verge up to land of Little Elcombes.
North and east around the land of and including Little Elcombes and Elcombes. North and east around the land of and including the Coach House, then north to the east boundaries of but not including Dormers and Wingreen, continuing north around the land with the pond then east and south around the land of and including the infant school, turning east along the north boundary of land of and including the Crown Hotel, telephone exchange and 7-21 Romsey Road, joining the west verge of the west side of Romsey Road. North along this verge, crossing Kings Close and then continuing north until turning west along the south, east and north boundaries of and including Burwood Lodge. West, north and east along the rear property boundaries of Forest Gardens up to the boundary of and including number 14 then north west and north east to the boundary of and including Greenmead. North west and north east around Greenmead, continuing across the Pikes Hill, then north around the property boundaries of and including 1 and 4 Pikes Hill, south west along the north side of the road to the junction with and across Romsey Road at Racecourse View.
