PROPOSED COOPER’S ROAD AREA AND SOUTH BERMONDSEY 20 MPH ZONE AND TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES

THE LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK (20 M.P.H. SPEED LIMIT) (COOPER’S ROAD AREA AND SOUTH BERMONDSEY) TRAFFIC ORDER 2008

  • 1 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Southwark (hereinafter referred to as ‘the Council’) propose to make the above-mentioned Order under sections 84(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.
  • 2 The general effect of the Order would be to impose a maximum speed limit of 20 miles per hour for motor vehicles in the following streets and lengths of streets: - ABBEYFIELD ROAD (so much as is public highway), AMBROSE STREET (so much as is public highway), ANCHOR STREET, ARGYLE WAY, ASPINDEN ROAD, AVONDALE SQUARE (so much as is public highway), BEATRICE ROAD, CAMILLA ROAD, CATLIN STREET, COOPER’S ROAD, CULLODEN CLOSE, DUNTON ROAD (between its junctions with Old Kent Road and Mandela Way), GALLEYWALL ROAD, HUMPHREY STREET, HYSON ROAD, LOVEGROVE STREET, LYNTON ROAD (between its junctions with St. James’s Road and Galleywall Road), MANDELA WAY (between its junctions with Dunton Road and Rolls Road), MARLBOROUGH GROVE, MASON CLOSE, MAWBEY PLACE, MAWBEY ROAD, RAYMOUTH ROAD, ROLLS ROAD, ROSEBERRY STREET, ROSSETTI ROAD, ROTHERHITHE NEW ROAD (between its junctions with Old Kent Road and Hawkstone Road), ROWCROSS STREET, ST. JAMES’S ROAD (between its junctions with Southwark Park Road and Rotherhithe New Road), SHEPPARD DRIVE, SHERWOOD GARDENS, SIMMS ROAD (between its junctions with St. James’s Road and Beatrice Road), SOUTHWARK PARK ROAD (between its junction with St. James’s Road and the southernmost wall of No. 351 Southwark Park Road), STEVENSON CRESCENT, STRATHNAIRN STREET, STUBBS DRIVE and TENDA ROAD.
  • 3 FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council, under sections 90A to 90I of the Highways Act 1980 and in accordance with the provisions of the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999 and Highways (Traffic Calming) Regulations 1999 propose to construct:-
    • a Speed tables at the locations specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice, which would be constructed to cover the full width of the carriageway, be of flat top design and at a height level with the surrounding kerbs;
    • b Speed cushions at the locations specified in Schedule 2 to this Notice which would be constructed 4 abreast across the carriageway, be of flat top design, 3.7 metres wide and 75 millimetres high;
    • c Speed cushions at the locations specified in Schedule 3 to this Notice which would be constructed 3 abreast across the carriageway, be of flat top design, 3.7 metres wide and 75 millimetres high;
    • d Speed cushions at the locations specified in Schedule 4 to this Notice which would be constructed 2 abreast across the carriageway, be of flat top design, 3.7 metres wide and 75 millimetres high;
    • e Speed cushions at the locations specified in Schedule 5 to this Notice which would be constructed in an offset pair across carriageway, be of flat top design, 3.7 metres wide and 75 millimetres high;
    • f Sinusoidal road humps at the locations specified in Schedule 6 to this Notice which would be constructed to cover the greater width of the carriageway, 3.7 metres wide and 75 millimetres high; and
    • g Round-top road humps at the locations specified in Schedule 7 to this Notice which would be constructed to cover the greater width of the carriageway, be of 3.7 metres wide and 75 millimetres high.
  • 4 Copies of the proposed Order and other documents giving more detailed particulars of the proposals can be inspected at the Reception Desk, Old Town Hall, 151 Walworth Road, London SE17 1RY during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive.
  • 5 Persons desiring to object to the proposals, or make any other representations in respect of them, should send a statement in writing to that effect, and in the case of an objection, stating the grounds thereof to the Traffic Orders Officer, Public Realm - Network Development, London Borough of Southwark, Old Town Hall, 151 Walworth Road, London SE17 1RY, quoting reference PR/ND/RDH/TMO2008-038 by 6th November 2008.
  • 6 Under the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985, any letter you write in response to this Notice may be made available to the press and to the public, who would be entitled to take copies of it if they so wished.
