NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE AN OFFSHORE WAVE POWER ELECTRICITY GENERATING STATION ON SEABED LOCATED NORTH OF HAYLE, CORNWALL

Notice is hereby given that South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) whose address is Sterling House, Dix’s Field, Exeter EX1 1QA, has applied for: 1. Consent from the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry under section 36 Electricity Act 1989, together with a declaration as to rights of navigation under section 36A, (as included in the Electricity Act 1989 by section 99 Energy Act 2004) and deemed planning permission under section 90 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990; 2. Consent from the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under section 34 of Coast Protection Act 1949, as amended by section 36 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1988; 3. Consent from the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a licence under section 5 of the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 to construct and operate a wave power generating station north of Hayle at the north coast of Cornwall, including installation and operation of the cables to the onshore connection to the electricity transmission system at Hayle Substation. The generating station, which would be known as Wave Hub, would have a total electrical capacity of up to 20 megawatts and is proposed to be located approximately 20km from Hayle. A copy of the applications, with plans showing the area to which they relate, together with a copy of the Environmental Statement explaining SWRDA’s proposals in more detail and presenting an assessment of the environmental impacts, with a Non-Technical Summary thereof, are available for inspection during normal working hours at the office as above and at: Hayle Library St Ives Library Newquay Library Penwith District Council office, Penzance Cornwall County Council office, County Hall, Truro Copies of the Environmental Statement may be purchased from the agent’s office either on CD for a charge of £10 or in hardcopy format for £250. Copies of the Non-Technical Summary are also available for a charge of £5. Purchase requests should be sent to Halcrow Group Limited, SWRDA’s agent, at Ash House, Falcon Road, Sowton, Exeter EX2 7LB, clearly marked for the attention of Dr Alan Taylor. Cheques should be made payable to Halcrow Group Limited. Copies of the Environmental Statement are also freely available via the project website, www.wavehub.co.uk Any person wishing to make objections or representations to the Secretaries of State about the applications should do so in writing to the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, c/o Offshore Renewables Consents Unit, Bay 2121, 1 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0ET, fax: 020 7215 2601, email offshore.windfarms@dti.gsi.gov.uk stating the name of the proposal and the nature of their objections or representations, not later than 11 August 2006. The Offshore Renewables Consents Unit will co-ordinate the receipt of any objections or representations on behalf of each of the regulators concerned and will pass to the applicant a copy of any objection or representation received, unless the person or persons making the objection or representation expressly request that their objections or comments should not be copied to the applicant.
