NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT FOR THE PURPOSES OF SECTION 88

Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Schedule 10 of the Water Resources Act 1991 (as amended by the Environment Act 1995), that an application has been made to the Environment Agency by United Utilities Water Plc, Dawson House, Liverpool Road, Great Sankey, Warrington WA5 3LW, for variation of an existing consent (017160006) to discharge treated sewage effluent and storm tank effluent to Colne Water, a tributary of the River Calder, at SD 8705 3949 from Colne Wastewater Treatment Works, Regent Street, Colne, Lancashire BB8 3LJ. This application is to provide chemical dosing treatment to the existing sewage treatment process to remove phosphate and improve compliance with the requirements of the Urban Waste Water Treatment (England and Wales) Regulations 1994. Any person who wishes to make representations or objections with respect to the application should do so in writing to: Mr D Edwards, Authorisations Officer, The Environment Agency, NW Central Area Office, PO Box 519, South Preston PR5 8GD, not later than Friday 25 March 2005, quoting Ref c/177/a/04/v. The Environment Agency is committed to maintaining and, where possible, improving water quality. If, after full consideration of this application and any representations made by interested parties, it is decided that consent can be given, then conditions will be imposed to ensure that the effluent receives treatment before discharge to the receiving waters so that the above aims are met. Details of the proposal are contained in the register held by the Environment Agency at the North West Central Area Office, Lutra House, Dodd Way, Walton Summit, Bamber Bridge, Preston, Lancashire, and may be inspected, free of charge, between the hours of 10.00 am and 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday inclusive.
