THE A421 TRUNK ROAD (BEDFORDSHIRE) (VARIABLE SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 200 

The Secretary of State for Transport hereby gives notice that he proposes to make an Order under section 84(1)(a) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, on a length of the A421 Trunk Road in the county of Bedfordshire to provide a safe working environment for the workforce during annual routine maintenance works.
The effect of the Order would be to impose either a 40 miles per hour or 50 miles per hour speed limit on the A421 Trunk Road from the M1 Junction 13 (including the circulatory carriageway of the roundabout at that junction) to the A421/A1 Black Cat Roundabout, including all slip roads connecting with that length of road.
Where any part of the length of trunk road mentioned above is dual carriageway the speed limits would be in conjunction with lane closures.
The speed limits would only be enforceable when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed and would apply to a maximum length of 4 kilometres at any one time.
Copies of the proposed Order, together with a location plan and a statement explaining the Secretary of State’s reasons for proposing to make the Order may be inspected during normal office hours at the offices of Bedfordshire County Council, County Hall, Cauldwell Street, Bedford MK42 9AP; Marston Mortaine Post Office, 67 Bedford Road, Marston Mortaine, Bedford MK43 0LA; or obtained by application to the Highways Agency, Operations Division, Orders Team, Heron House, 49-53 Goldington Road, Bedford MK40 3LL, quoting Ref HA41/29/177.
Any person wishing to object to the proposed Order should write to the Highways Agency at the above address stating the reasons for the objection by a date not later than 3 March 2005, or within 3 weeks of this publication, whichever is the latest.
