THE TOWER HAMLETS (20 MPH SPEED LIMIT) (NO 2) TRAFFIC ORDER 2005
HIGHWAYS (ROAD HUMP) REGULATIONS 1999 AND HIGHWAYS ACT 1980

1. Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets proposes to make the above-mentioned Order under section 84(1)(a) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Local Government Act 1985 and the Road Traffic Act 1991. 2. The general effect of The Tower Hamlets (20 mph Speed Limit) (No 2) Traffic Order 2005, will be that no person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 20 miles per hour in any of the streets or lengths of street which are public highway and lie within an area bounded by a line drawn on the southern backline of East Smithfield and The Highway; the eastern backline of Glamis Road projected to the north bank of the River Thames; the north bank of the River Thames; the south-western backline of St Katharine’s Way, between Thomas More Street and Mews Street; the north-eastern backline of St Katharine’s Way, between Mews Street and Thomas More Street and the western backline of Thomas More Street. 3. Under the Highways (Road Hump) Regulations 1999 and the Highways Act 1980 (as amended by the Road Traffic Act 1991), the following traffic calming is proposed: (a) Speed tables: in Thomas More Street adjacent to Cardinal Court; Kennet Street between Nos 64-68 and 70-74; Pennington Street at its junction with Wapping Lane; Scandrett Street adjacent to No 12; Watts Street adjacent to the entrance to Wapping Gardens; Reardon Street at its junction with Chandler Street; Wapping Lane 80 metres south of Sovereign Close and Wapping Wall at its junction with Monza Street. (b) Junction entry treatments: in Vaughan Way at its junction with Sampson Street; in Stockholm Way at its junction with Vaughan Way; in Thomas More Street at its junction with Stockholm Way; in Scandrett Street at its junction with Wapping High Street; in Green Bank at its junction with Wapping Lane; in Brewhouse Lane at its junction with Wapping Lane; in Chandler Street at its junction with Wapping Lane and in Monza Street at its junction with Wapping Wall. (c) Speed cushions: in Thomas More Street, one set adjacent to Shearwater Court, one set adjacent to No 189 and one set adjacent to No 203; in Kennet Street, one set adjacent to No 8, one set adjacent to Nos 32-34 and one set between Nos 70-74 and 64-68; in Pennington Street, one set 35 metres east of Breezers Hill, one set 75 metres east of Artichoke Hill and one set 8 metres west of Chigwell Hill; in Green Bank, one set 5 metres west of Dundee Street, one set 50 metres east of Reardon Path and one set 50 metres west of Wapping Lane; in Watts Green, one set 12 metres east of Reardon Path; in Cinnamon Street, one set 20 metres east of its junction with Wapping Dock Street; in Prusom Street, one set 40 metres east of its junction with Wapping Lane, one set 30 metres east of its junction with Clegg Street, one set 40 metres west of Pearl Street and one set 22 metres east of Pearl Street; in Reardon Street, one set 40 metres west of Wapping Lane. 4. A copy of the proposed Order and a plan showing the proposed traffic calming can be inspected by appointment at the offices of Environment and Culture, Traffic and Transportation Section, 60 Southern Grove, London E3 4PN, during normal office hours, on Mondays to Fridays inclusive, until the expiration of a period of 21 days from the date on which this notice is published. 5. Any person desiring to comment on the proposed Order or traffic proposals should send a statement in writing of their objection and the grounds thereof, to the above address within the aforementioned period of 21 days.
