ENVIRONMENT AGENCY NATIONAL CRAYFISH BYELAWS
Notice is hereby given that the Environment Agency intends to apply, to the Fisheries
Minister at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in England and
the Minister for Environment, Planning and Countryside in Wales for confirmation of
Byelaws made under the Water Resources Act 1991 as amended by the Environment Act
1995, for the regulation of trapping of crayfish as follows:
1. The authorisation and use of traps for catching native and non-native crayfish
in inland waters.
2. Return of fish by-catch.
3. Crayfish catch returns.
4. Describing the size of instruments and the entrances to instruments that may be
used to catch native and non-native crayfish, and specifying their mode of use.
5. Provision for exemption from national byelaw requirements for Agency employees
acting in official capacity or others with written Agency permission.
Copies of the Byelaws have been deposited at the offices of the Agency at the addresses
shown below:

and will be open to inspection, free of charge, from Monday to Friday during normal
office hours from the date of publication of this notice until Friday 21 January 2005.
During the same period copies of the Byelaws will be supplied on demand at these offices,
free of charge, to any person.
Any person who wishes to object to the confirmation of the above Byelaws must send
a written statement of their objection to Emma Southard, Fisheries Division IIb, Department
for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Room 109, 10 Whitehall Place, London
SW1A 2HH, or to Alex Ross, Welsh Assembly Government, Agriculture and Fisheries Policy
Division 2, CP2, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF10 3NQ, to arrive no later than 21 January
2005, and must send a copy of the statement of objection to Andy Martin, Environment
Agency, Rio House, Waterside Drive, Aztec West, Almondsbury, Bristol BS32 4UD.
