UK/SOUTH AFRICA DOUBLE TAXATION CONVENTION

A new Double Taxation Convention between the UK and South Africa, which was signed in London on 4 July 2002, entered into force on 17 December 2002. The text of the Convention has been published as the Schedule to the Double Taxation Relief (Taxes on Income) (South Africa) Order 2002 (Statutory Instrument 2002 No 3138), copies of which can be obtained from The Stationery Office. The text of the Order can also be accessed on the Internet at http://www.hmso.gov.uk. The provisions of the Convention will apply in the UK from 1 April 2003, for corporation tax and from 6 April 2003 for income and capital gains tax; in South Africa the provisions apply from 1 January 2003. The Convention replaces an existing Convention that was concluded on 21 November 1968.
