WATER RESOURCES ACT 1991
NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A LICENCE TO ABSTRACT WATER

Take notice that A E Bowring & Sons, of Meden Farm, Forest Road, Warsop, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, are applying to the Environment Agency to vary Licence Serial No 3/28/71/40/G which authorises the abstraction from the Lower Magnesian Limestone at National Grid Ref SK 5836 6956 at Assarts Farm, Warsop at the following rates: 1,000 cubic metres per day and 80,000 cubic metres per annum. The variation being applied for is: (i) To increase the annual abstraction rate from 80,000 cubic metres per annum to 100,000 cubic metres per annum. (ii) To vary the period of abstraction from 1 April to 31 October to All Year. (iii) To include as an additional purpose on the licence “The transfer of water to a borehole in the Sherwood Sandstone at Assarts Farm at National Grid Ref SK 5905 6875”. (iv) Change the expiry of the time limited component of the Lower Magnesian Limestone Licence 3/28/71/40/G to 2012. Please note that the total quantity of water to be abstracted under Licence 3/28/71/40/G will never exceed 100,000 cubic metres per annum. Also take notice that A E Bowring & Sons are applying for a new licence to abstract water from the Sherwood Sandstone at Assarts Farm at National Grid Ref SK 5905 6875. The proposal is to abstract water at the following rates: 102 cubic metres per hour, 2,040 cubic metres per day and 100,000 cubic metres per annum between 1 April to 31 October each year for spray irrigation. This proposal will allow the transfer of water from the Lower Magnesian Limestone to the Sherwood Sandstone so that it can be “banked” and efficiently re-abstracted when demand merits greater or lesser irrigation. Please note that the amount of water re-abstracted from the Sherwood Sandstone in any one season will never exceed the net volume of water previously transferred to it from the Lower Magnesian Limestone, but not re-abstracted under this scheme. A copy of the application and any map, plans and other documents submitted with it may be inspected, free of charge, at all reasonable hours at Meden Farm, Forest Road, Warsop, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire between 5 March 2003 and 5 April 2003. Any person who wishes to make representations about the application should do so in writing to The Environment Agency, Midlands Region, Trentside Offices, Scarrington Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2 5FA, before the end of the said period, quoting the name of the applicant. J Bowring, on behalf of A E Bowring & Sons 26 February 2003.
