NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A LICENCE TO OBSTRUCT OR IMPEDE THE FLOW OF AN INLAND WATER BY MEANS OF IMPOUNDING WORKS AND TO ABSTRACT WATER
Take notice that Darby William Dennis, of Walcot Estate, Walcot Hall, Stamford, Lincolnshire PE9 3EU, is applying to the Environment Agency for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the Southorpe Brook (also known as the Wittering Brook and the Whitewater Stream), and to abstract water by means of a measuring weir, a weir board in the side of the stream, at National Grid Ref TF 079 019, and a pipeline to the offstream reservoir at Walcot Estate. The proposal is to abstract water by gavity flow at the following maximum rates between 1 November and 31 March each year: 136,000 cubic metres per annum to initially fill the reservoir in the first year and then up to a maximum of 115,600 cubic metres (85%) in subsequent years allowing for unused water in the bottom of the reservoir. The average flow per 24 hour day is likely to be about 3,000 cubic metres when water is being abstracted. The water will be used to fill a clay lined reservoir for the spray irrigation of agricultural crops between 1 April and 31 October each year. A copy of the application and any maps, plans and other documents submitted with it including an environmental statement may be inspected, free of charge, at all reasonable hours at The Estate Office, Walcot Hall, Barnack, Stamford, between 9 December 2002 and 9 January 2003. Any person who wishes to make representations about the application should do so in writing to the Environment Agency, Waterside House, Waterside North, Lincoln LN2 5HA, before the end of the said period.
