SCHEDULE 10
WATER RESOURCES ACT 1991 (AS AMENDED BY THE ENVIRONMENT ACT 1995)
NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT IN PURSUANCE OF SECTION 88 AND SCHEDULE 10
Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 88 and Schedule 10 of the Water
Resources Act 1991, that an application No A.1158/K/02, has been made to the Environment
Agency (Southern Region) by Southern Water Ltd to vary the existing consented discharge
of treated sewage effluent to the River Beult from Staplehurst Wastewater Treatment
Works at National Grid Ref TQ 7948 4467, to reflect improvements to the works’ infrastructure,
including the provision of Phosphate removal, necessary to meet revised quality standards
for the discharge.
The application reflects the increase in the maximum discharge of treated sewage
effluent under dry weather conditions, from 980 cubic metres per day to 1436 cubic
metres per day. The application includes proposals for a discharge of sewage following
mechanical or power failure at one, or both of the works’ pumping stations, or following
a rising main failure. The application states that standby pumps and a permanent standby
generator will be provided at the pumping stations to safeguard against power and
mechanical failure.
Any person wishing to make representation about the application should do so in writing
to the Area Environment Planning Manager, Environment Agency, Orchard House, Endeavour
Park, London Road, Addington, West Malling, Kent ME19 5SH, not later than 2 August
2002, quoting application A.1158/K/02. A copy of the application may be inspected,
free of charge, at the above address, at all reasonable hours.
