NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A LICENCE TO ABSTRACT WATER

Take notice that McConnell Dowell (UK) Ltd, of Old Linen Court, 83-85 Shambles Street, Barnsley S70 2SB, is applying to the Environment Agency for a licence to abstract water from the River Darwen at SD 627 272 at Hoghton Bottoms near Blackburn. The first proposal is to abstract water at the following rates: 60 cubic metres per hour maximum, 100 cubic metres per day maximum, 6,000 cubic metres per year maximum, between May and December 2002. The water will be used for the construction of a microtunnel and for dust suppression. A copy of the application and any maps, plans and other documents submitted with it may be inspected, free of charge, at all reasonable hours at The Project Office, Higher Stanworth, Bolton Road, Abbey Village, Chorley, between 21 March 2002 and 21 April 2002. Any person who wishes to make representations about the application should do so in writing to the Environment Agency, Lutra House, PO Box 519, South Preston PR5 8GD, before the end of the said period, quoting the name of the applicant.
