NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT FOR THE PURPOSES OF SECTION 88

Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Schedule 10 of the Water Resources Act 1991, that an application has been made to the Environment Agency by Lafarge Aggregates Limited for consent to discharge 24,000 cubic metres per day of trade effluent comprising of dewatering from mineral excavations and inert landfill operations from Tyttenhanger, North Orbital Road, Colney Heath, St. Albans, Hertfordshire, to the River Colne between National Grid Ref. TL/1949/0578 and TL/1897/0457. Details of the proposal are contained in the register held by the Agency at its office in Reading. The register is held at Kings Meadow House, Kings Meadow Road, Reading, Berkshire and may be inspected, free of charge, from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday to Friday inclusive. Inquiries by telephone (direct line (01707) 632459) may be made between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday inclusive. Any person who wishes to make representations or objections with respect to the application should do so, in writing to the North East Area Water Quality Consenting Team Leader, Environemnt Agency, Thames Region, Apollo Court, 2 Bishops Square, Hatfield Business Park, Hertfordshire AL10 9PW, quoting N/WR0235 not later than 23rd February 2001. The Environment Agency is committed to maintaining and where possible improving water quality. If, after full consideration of this application and any representations made by interested parties, it is decided that consent can be given, then conditions will be imposed to ensure that the effluent receives treatment before discharge to the receiving waters so that the above aims are met.
