WATER RESOURCES ACT 1991, SCHEDULE 10 (AS AMENDED BY THE ENVIRONMENT ACT 1995)
NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT FOR THE PURPOSES OF SECTION 88
Notice is given, as required by Schedule 10 of the Water Resources Act 1991, that the following application has been made to the Environment Agency, South West Region. Aggregate Industries UK Limited have applied for Consent to Discharge from Venn Quarry at Landkey, Barnstaple, North Devon. This is a review of a 1964 Consent to Discharge (Devon River Board 366) which is now out of date. The discharge will still comprise surplus rainwater and ground water that has accumulated in the quarry. The volume of effluent which needs to be discharged to the river has increased. In addition to amending volumetric conditions the Agency also wish to issue more stringent effluent quality conditions. Consequently the company intend to install a new treatment plant in order to comply with the new standards. The Agency consider that the company’s proposal represents an improvement to the existing discharge and is likely to improve water quality in the River Venn.
