NOTICE OF DESIGNATION OF BEAULIEU, BICKTON, BROCKENHURST, BUCKLERS HARD, BURLEY, HARBRIDGE, IBSLEY, OLD MILTON GREEN, SOPLEY AND SWAY TOWER AS CONSERVATION AREAS
Notice is hereby given that on 29th September 1999 the New Forest District Council acting as local planning authority, made a determination under the provisions of section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 in respect of land described generally in this notice, designating the areas as Conservation Areas as defined by the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. The areas were previously designated as Conservation Areas and these designations follow a review of the boundaries of the areas. The effects briefly of designation are as follows: 1. the local planning authority comes under a duty to pay special attention to the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area 2. the demolition of buildings in the area (with certain exceptions) requires the consent of the local planning authority 3. trees in the area may not (with certain exceptions) be cut down, topped, lopped, uprooted, wilfully damaged or wilfully destroyed 4. permitted development rights under the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order are more restricted than in other areas 5. the right to display certain types of illuminated advertisement without express consent is excluded 6. specific statutory duties are imposed on telecommunications operators. Beaulieu, the land on both sides of High Street: The Lodge and grounds; Curtlemead and grounds; Holt Cottage and Chestnut Cottage on Hatchet Lane; Ditton and Clitheroe Cottages; Mill Pond and land on its southern edge; Thatched Cottage and Pondside; Shepherds Mead on B3056; Palance House, Beaulieu Abbey, the Parish Church and the Vicarage. Bickton, the whole of the village of Bickton, including Bickton Farm, the Fish Farm and the Mill Dam. Brockenhurst (Waters Green), the land comprising Waters Green and a part of Black Knowl; all properties fronting onto Waters Green; 1 Chestnut Grove; Burford Lane; Park Close; Butts Lawn; 1 and 2 Careys Cottages; Meerut Road west as far as Surrey Lodge; Martins Road; Lyndhurst Road, north of Waters Green and Careys Manor Hotel; and Careys Manor Hotel and grounds. Bucklers Hard, the land comprising the street of Bucklers Hard, the Master Builders House Hotel, the car parks, the waterfront and the Duke’s Bathing House. Burley, the whole of the enclosed land, comprising properties and woods and fields of Burley, Burley Street and Bisterne Close, the boundary being the edge of the surrounding open forest. Harbridge, the land including the hamlet of Turner, Turner Cottages, Harbridge House, Harbridge Church, Harbridge Cottages and Church Cottage. Ibsley, the land including all the properties on the east side of Salisbury Road (A338); Little Park and the riverbank north to Ibsley Bridge; and the properties on Mockbeggar Lane east as far as Ibsley House on the south side, and as far as Yew Tree Cottage on the north side. Old Milton Green, the properties on the north and east sides of Old Milton Green; St. Mary Magdalene’s Church and graveyard; the former depot on Church Lane; and The Rectory. Sopley, the whole of the village of Sopley, excluding the properties on the east side of Ringwood Road from Sopley House north. To include the water meadows westwards to the main channel of the River Avon from Avon Causeway in the north to the district boundary in the south. Sway Tower, the land on the east side of Barrows Lane, from the Piggeries southwards passing Flexford Lane and Sway Tower as far as Hazlehurst; Arnewood Court and South Lodge; Highlight Nurseries and Granville Cottage, all on Flexford Lane. The boundaries of the Conservation Areas are more particularly shown on plans available for inspection at Planning Reception, New Forest District Council, Appletree Court, Lyndhurst, Hampshire, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.
