TRANSFER OF GENERAL BUSINESS

Notice is hereby given that General Accident Fire and Life Assurance Corporation plc applied to the Financial Services Authority on 22nd February 1999, for their approval, pursuant to the Insurance Companies Act 1982, section 49 and Schedule 2C, to transfer to Commercial Union Italia S.p.A. all of its rights and obligations under general business insurance policies (excluding sickness and legal defence business) written by it in Italy through its brokers and agents prior to the close of business on 20th January 1999. Copies of the statement of particulars of the proposed transfer are available for inspection at Commercial Union Italia S.p.A., Viale Abruzzi, 94-20131 Milan, Italy and General Accident Fire and Life Assurance Corporation plc, Pitheavlis, Perth, Scotland, UK, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until 4th April 1999. Written representations concerning the transfer may be sent to the Insurance and Friendly Societies Division, Financial Services Authority, Room 15 NE 16 H, 25 The North Colonnade, Canary Wharf, London E14 5HS, before 5th May 1999. The Financial Services Authority will not determine the application until after considering any representations made to them before that date.
