ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 The A249 Trunk Road (M2 Motorway to Kingsferry Bridge) (24 Hours Clearway) Order 199
The Secretary of State for Transport hereby gives notice that he proposes to make an Order under sections 1(1), 2(1), and (2) and 4(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on the A249 Trunk Road in the Borough of Maidstone and the Borough of Swale in the county of Kent. The effect of the Order would be to impose a 24 hours clearway on the “new” A249 from its junction with the M2 Motorway (Junction 5) near Stockbury to the point where it crosses the Ridham Docks access road (south of the Kingsferry Bridge) near Iwade, a distance of 9,715 metres. Roadside trading would also be prohibited on this length of road. This would supersede the temporary Order currently in force. A copy of the draft Order, a plan illustrating the proposal, and a statement explaining why the Secretary of State proposes to make the Order and the temporary Order it would supersede may be inspected during office hours at the offices of Kent County Council, Sandling Block, Springfield, Maidstone and at those of Swale Borough Council, Swale House, East Street, Sittingbourne. Any person desiring to object to the Secretary of State’s proposal should send, not later than 10th July 1998, a written statement of his or her objection and the grounds thereof to The Director, Southern Network Customer Services Division, Highways Agency, Department of Transport, Federated House, London Road, Dorking, Surrey RH4 1SZ, quoting ref. MSE MSE 5062/A249/0/41/2/1. General enquiries relating to this notice may be made in writing to the Route Manager, Peter Sandwell, at the Highways Agency, Federated House, London Road, Dorking, Surrey RH4 1SZ, or by telephoning 01306 878327. Please note that formal objections will not be valid unless made in writing. D. Harden, Highways Agency, Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions.
