THE PLANT HEALTH (GREAT BRITAIN) ORDER 1993
NOTICE OF DEMARCATED ZONES FOR THE CONTROL OF RALSTONIA SOLANACEARUM (SMITH) YABUUCHI ET AL

The presence of Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al., the bacterium which causes potato brown rot, has been confirmed in samples of surface water taken pursuant to Articles 2 and 5 of Directive 98/57/EC of 20th July 1998 on the control of potato brown rot (“the Directive”).

I, Brian Ellam, being an Inspector authorised by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for the purposes of the Plant Health (Great Britain) Order 1993 (5.1. 1993/1320) as amended (“the Order”), give notice that I have demarcated the following zones of contamination for the purposes of article 23A of the Order (article 23A was inserted by the Plant Health (Amendment) (England) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/2126)):

Internal Drainage - from the point at which the feeder ditch
Board joins Internal Drainage Board Normal
Normal Channel 121, Channel 121 (at grid reference TL 180419)
Bedfordshire to IDB Channel 121’s confluence with
Bell Brook (at grid reference TL 185453)
including: (a) the feeder channel from
the sluice gate set into the west bank of
the River Ivel (at grid reference
TL 183419), to the point where it feeds
into Internal Drainage Board Normal
Channel 121 (at grid reference
TL 182424); and (b) the Shefford &
District Angling Association fishing lake
(at grid reference TL 183417);
Bell Brook, - from the point where Internal Drainage
Bedfordshire Board Normal Channel 121 flows into it
(grid reference TL 185453) to its
confluence with the River Ivel (grid
reference TL 185457);
Dan’s Ditch, - from the syphon discharge on the west
Bedfordshire bank of the River Ivel into Dan’s Ditch
(at grid reference TL 183403) to the
confluence of Dan’s Ditch with the
River Ivel (at grid reference TL 183414);
Stanground Lode, - from the railway bridge between Yaxley
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough (grid reference
TL 192948) to its confluence with the
River Nene and Morton’s Leam (grid
reference TL201977), including Crown
Lakes at grid references TL 194941 and
TL 196943);
River Witham, - from the A1434 bridge at Bracebridge
Lincolnshire (grid SK966682) to its confluence with
The Haven at Boston (grid reference
TF327428), including the Old River
Witham around Branston Island (from
grid reference TF089712 to grid
reference TF105700);
Fossdyke Navigation, - entire length from Torksey Lock (grid
Lincolnshire reference SK837782) up to and including
Brayford Pool (at grid reference
SK972713) in Lincoln;

On and after 31st March 2003, the provisions of paragraph 11 of Schedule 13A to the Order (Schedule 13A was also inserted by S.I. 1999/2126) shall apply in the above demarcated zones for the purpose of controlling the spread of potato brown rot.

Also with effect on and after 31st March 2003 the areas of surface water which have been designated as contaminated, and to which the prohibition on irrigation and spraying of potato and tomato crops in paragraph 11(b)(i) to (iii) of Schedule 13A to the Order shall apply are the same as those demarcated above.
