Notification of proposals for the designation of universal service providers

In accordance with the Electronic Communications (Universal Service) Regulations 2003 (SI 2003 No 33), the Director General of Telecommunications has made a Notification which:

-	names the persons whom he proposes to designate as providers of universal service in the United Kingdom;
-	sets out the conditions that he proposes to impose upon designated providers; and
-	invites expressions of interest from any other person who wishes to be designated as a universal service provider instead of the person or persons proposed.

The deadline for expressions of interest or any other representations about the proposals set out in the Notification is 2nd May 2003; contact details are provided in the consultation paper.
