THE URBAN WASTE WATER TREATMENT REGULATIONS (NORTHERN IRELAND) 2007 (SR 2007 NO.187) – SENSITIVE AREA REVIEW 2006 - 2009

In accordance with regulation 3(2) of the above Regulations, notice is hereby given that the Department has carried out a sensitive area review of surface water bodies for the period 2006 to 2009.

The review supports the existing identifications and recommends that these remain in place. One additional identification has been made at Ballyholme bathing water. This water is to be identified as a sensitive area effective from 17 June 2011.

The existing identifications are all surface waters in the catchments of Lough Neagh, Lough Erne, Inner Belfast Lough, the Tidal Lagan, the Quoile Pondage, North Strangford Lough, Newcastle bathing water, Paddy’s Point & Reagh Bay (previously known as Ardmillan Shellfish Water), the River Lagan, Enler River, River Bush, Newry River, Lower Bann River, River Roe, River Faughan and Foyle River.

The maps may also be inspected, free of charge, at NIEA offices, 17 Antrim Road, Lisburn, BT28 3AL – 9.30am to 4.30pm on working days.
