Notice of Intention to Prepare

a Development Plan

The Planning Service, an Agency within the Department of the Environment, intends to prepare a development plan under the provision of Part III of the Planning (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 for the area comprising Armagh City and District Council area.

The Plan will be prepared within the context of the Regional Development Strategy. It will inform the general public, statutory authorities, developers and other interested bodies of the policy framework and land use proposals that will be used to guide development and the use of land within the Council area up to the year 2018.

The Plan will focus on a number of issues including: the zoning of land for particular forms of development such as housing, industry and recreation; designations relating to regional policies such as Green Belts; committed public sector proposals and designations of other site specific areas to which local policies will apply, such as local landscape policy areas.

The Department will consult the local council, Government Departments, statutory undertakers, other appropriate bodies and interested parties in the preparation of the Plan.

The Department wishes to ensure that members of the public have the opportunity to participate at this initial key stage in the Plan making process by contributing to the formulation of the key issues which the Plan should consider.

     Written comments on key issues should be received by 2nd May 2003. Any comments that relate to specific sites should be accompanied by an up-to-date map clearly identifying the lands in question.
