Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (“the Council”) hereby gives notice in accordance with Section 70 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Area) Act 1990 as amended, that on 15th February 2022, boundary changes to Nuneaton Town Centre and Bedworth Town Centre Conservation Area were confirmed. This followed a public consultation on the Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) between 11th June 2021 and 6th August 2021.

Nuneaton Town Centre

The boundary is extended west of Queens Road to include the former Co-op building of 1927 and extended east of Newdegate Street and east of Bridge Street to include the Conservative Club and the former Debenhams building.

Bedworth Town Centre

The boundary is retracted to remove buildings in Mill Street, All Saints Square, Congreve Walk and Church Way. The boundary is extended to include buildings on High Street.

A Conservation Area is an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character of appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.

The main effects of being included within a Conservation Area are:

1. The Council has a duty to pay special attention to the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character and appearance of Conservation Areas;

2. Permitted Development rights are restricted within Conservation Areas;

3. Additional controls over demolition;

4. Additional publicity must be given to planning applications within Conservation Areas;

5. Notice mut be given to the Council before work can be carried out to trees within Conservation Areas
