THE LONDON BOROUGH OF CROYDON
PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990 - SECTION 70
NOTICE OF BOUNDARY AMENDMENTS TO THE ADDINGTON VILLAGE CONSERVATION AREA
PN787
Notice is given that the London Borough of Croydon has amended the boundaries of the Addington Village Conservation Area as follows:
The following areas have been included in the Conservation Area: Addington Palace, the former Stables, Stable Lodge, South Lodge, historic parkland between the Palace and village (now golf course and public park) and Roxton Gardens
The following areas have been excluded from the Conservation Area: Numbers 63-73 (odd) and 52-54 (even) Boundary Way
The boundary changes were approved by Croydon Council on the 27th of January 2020. The Council held a public meeting on 9th May 2019 and there was a six week consultation period from 18th April to 30th May 2019. The boundary changes were justified by assessment of the areas during the production of a Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan (CAAMP) for Addington Village Conservation Area.
The principal effects of the above properties being included within a Conservation Area are as follows:
1. The Council is under a duty to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the character of the conservation area.
2. Planning permission must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area.
3. There are some restrictions to permitted development rights as a result of conservation area designation.
4. Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.
5. In carrying out any functions under the Planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving and enhancing the character of the conservation areas.
6. Six weeks’ notice must be given to the Council before works are carried out to any tree in the area.
The Addington Village CAAMP, which includes a map showing the revised boundary of the Conservation Area, is available on the conservation pages of the council’s website: https://www.croydon.gov.uk/planningandregeneration/framework/conservation. Copies are available to view at Bernard Weatherill House (Access Croydon), Mint Walk, Croydon, and at New Addington and Central Croydon Libraries during normal opening hours.
