The Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council, acting in their capacity as Coast Protection Authority, hereby give notice under section 5(1) of the above Act that they propose to carry out coast protection work along the Poole Bay coastal frontage from the Sandbanks peninsular in the West to Hengistbury Head at the East.

The proposed works over the next five years will continue with the renewal of all life expired timber groynes the majority to the West of Boscombe Pier and a small number at Southbourne. Periodic beach renourishment will take place using material from a licensed dredge area having similar characteristics to the native beach, with specific placement locations informed by comprehensive beach monitoring. In addition, repair and upgrades to Hengistbury Head Long Groyne, situated at the far eastern end of Poole Bay will be undertaken.

The purpose of the works is to reduce the risk of coastal erosion to residential and commercial property. The estimated cost of the proposed work is £25 million over the stated five year period.

Details of the proposed works (hard copies of plans etc) can be inspected at BCP Council, Customer Services Centre, St Stephen’s Road, Bournemouth, BH2 6EB which is open to the public during normal working hours (typically 09:00 to 16:00) Monday to Friday.

Any person may no later than Friday 20th December 2019 serve a notice of objection to the proposals on the Secretary of State and on the Council. Any such notice must contain a statement of the grounds of objection and must be delivered to or sent by post, or email to the Secretary of State and to the Chief Executive of the Council.

Notices may be posted to the Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Flood Management, Nobel House, 17 Smith Square, London SW1P 3JR and to the Chief Executive at BCP Council, Town Hall, Bourne Avenue, Bournemouth, BH2 6DY.
