NOTICE OF DETERMINATION

M62 JUNCTIONS 33-34 VERGE VRS RENEWAL SCHEME ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT

DETERMINATION UNDER SECTION 105 A (3) OF THE HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 (AS AMENDED)

Highways England gives notice that it has been determined that the M62 Junctions 33-34 Verge VRS Renewal Scheme proposal which is a relevant project within the meaning of section 105A (1) of the Highways Act 1980 is not subject to environmental impact assessment in accordance with Part VA of the Highways Act 1980.

This is due to the fact that no limitations were identified in the screening assessment with the environmental assessment concluding there would not be any permanent or temporary significant effects arising from the project. The extent of works, confined to a localised works footprint would not result in any significant adverse impacts on the landscape character or result in any significant permanent visual impacts on surrounding receptors.

Given the localised disturbance to the verge areas within the existing highways boundary no significant adverse impacts on protected species, habitats and designated sites are anticipated.

The proposed scheme is also not predicted to result in any significant changes in local air quality and no permanent adverse impacts from noise arising from the scheme are anticipated, particularly with no changes to traffic flows, carriageway boundaries or type of road surface within the scheme extents.

No adverse impacts are anticipated on any identified cultural heritage assets as a result of the proposed scheme during construction or operation.

No impacts on sensitive geological resources, underlying geology or productive soil / agricultural resources are anticipated.

There will also be no increases in impermeable areas or changes to existing drainage.

The improved safety measures are also anticipated to result in a decrease in the risk of accidental spillages from vehicle collisions, thus providing a potential localised beneficial impact during operation.

No adverse impacts on the social, health and economic profile are anticipated as a result of the proposed scheme.
