THE POLLUTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL (INDUSTRIAL EMISSIONS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS (NORTHERN IRELAND) 2018

AIR QUALITY AND INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs has made a Statutory Rule entitled “The Pollution Prevention and Control (Industrial Emissions) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2018” (SR 2018 No. 33).

The Statutory Rule comes into operation on 20th March 2018. It ensures that Northern Ireland complies with the requirements of European Union laws on medium combustion plants.

It aims to regulate Northern Ireland’s air quality by controlling emissions of harmful pollutants from combustion and generator activities.

The emissions of harmful pollutants are mainly those of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and dust from medium combustion plants.

A medium combustion plant is a combustion plant with a rated thermal input equal to or greater than 1 megawatt but less than 50 megawatts.
