REVISION OF THE SAFFRON WALDEN CONSERVATION AREA NOTICE OF DESIGNATION

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT Uttlesford District Council on the 11th January 2018 resolved to revise the Saffron Walden Conservation Area under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 sections 69, 70 and 71. The Council published the proposals on 27th September 2017 and held a public meeting in the Council Offices at London Road, Saffron Walden, CB11 4ER on 21st October 2017. The consultation period lasted from 27th September 2017 to 8th November 2017 and the Council had regard to the views expressed in that meeting and any written representations when making the resolution.

2. The following alterations have been made to the six zones (formerly referred to as areas) included within the Saffron Walden Conservation Area:

a. Within Zone 2, nos 34 -36 High Street, Saffron Walden have been identified as being non-designated heritage assets.

b. It is proposed to extend the boundary in Zones 4 and 6.

c. In Zone 4 it is proposed to include Radwinter Road Cemetary along Radwinter Road in the Conservation Area. The boundary line is to be drawn along the South of Radwinter Road and will include nos 18 – 26 Radwinter Road. Nos 22 – 24 have been identified as non-designated heritage assets. The boundary to the west will be revised to omit the site of the Saffron Lodge Residential Complex.

d. It is proposed to include the entirety of the former Friends School site on Mount Pleasant Road in Zone 6. This will include the grounds, the lime tree avenue and the variety of associated buildings on the site.
