THE STOPPING UP OF HIGHWAYS (LAND ADJACENT TO 13 NEWTON STREET, SWANSEA) ORDER 2018

The Welsh Ministers have made an Order under section 247 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (“the Act”) to authorise the stopping up of the length of highway described in Schedule 1 to enable the development described in Schedule 2 to be carried out. The Stopping Up of Highways (Land Adjacent to 13 Newton Street, Swansea) Order 2018 (“the Order”), will cease to have effect if planning permission in respect of the development expires or is revoked.

Copies of the Order and the deposited plan may be inspected free of charge at the office of Swansea Council, Civic Centre, Oystermouth Road, Swansea, SA1 3SN during normal office hours or may be obtained free of charge from the address below quoting reference qA1284985.

If a person is aggrieved by the Order, on the ground that:

a. it is not within the powers of the Act; or

b. a procedural requirement of the Act has not been complied with;

that person may, within 6 weeks of 19 January 2018, make an application for the purpose to the High Court.

Description of the length of highway to be stopped up under this Order

An irregular shaped length of highway located to the east of 13 Newton Street, in the south west corner of the YMCA Car Park, Swansea, with a maximum length of 19.2 metres and a maximum width of 8 metres and shown by zebra hatching on the deposited plan.

SCHEDULE 2

The Development

Construction of a purpose built student accommodation building between 5-14 storeys for residential accommodation with ancillary communal facilities, cycle & bin stores, with ground floor commercial unit Retail (Class A1) and/or Restaurant (Class A3) and associated works following demolition of existing single storey restaurant building, in accordance with the planning permission granted under Part III of the 1990 Act by the Council on 21 November 2017 under reference number 2016/3704/FUL.
