ENVIRONMENT AGENCY FISHERIES BYELAWS – SOLWAY FIRTH HEAVE OR HAAF NET LIMITATION ORDER, NET FISHING BYELAWS, AND ROD AND LINE BYELAWS FOR THE BORDER ESK AND RIVER EDEN

Notice is hereby given that the Environment Agency intends to apply to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to amend the “Limitation of Solway Firth Heave or Haaf Net Fishing Licences” Order, net fishing byelaws, and the rod fishing byelaws for the River Eden, and to the Scottish Government for the Border Esk rod fishing byelaws that expired in November 2017.

The new Net Limitation Order will:

Reduce the number of annually available net fishing licences.

The new Byelaws will:

Increase the available time to those fishing within the net fishery;

Limit the number of sea trout that may be killed by netting in the Solway Firth heave or haaf net fishery;

Limit the number of sea trout that may be killed by rod anglers on the Border Esk and River Eden;

Require all salmon caught by netting in the Solway Firth heave or haaf net fishery to be returned;

Require all salmon caught by rod anglers on the Border Esk and River Eden to be returned;

Require all female sea trout caught after 9th September by rod anglers on the Border Esk and River Eden to be returned.

Copies may also be viewed at the Environment Agency offices in Penrith (Ghyll Mount, Gillan Way, Penrith 40 Business Park, Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 9BP) which will be open to inspection free of charge from Monday to Friday during normal office hours from the date of publication of this notice until 16th February 2018.

Any objection to the confirmation of this Net Limitation Order and byelaws should be made in writing and addressed to:

At the end of the consultation period copies of the responses may be made public. The information contained may also be published in a summary of responses.
