THE A1 TRUNK ROAD (SOUTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAY) (ELKESLEY, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE) (40 AND 50 MILES PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT AND DERESTRICTION) ORDER 2017

Highways England Company Limited (Company no. 9346363) hereby gives notice that it has made an Order under section 82(2) and 83(1), 84(1)(a) and (2) and 122A of, and paragraph 27(1) of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on lengths of the A1 Trunk Road at Elkesley in the County of Nottinghamshire.

The Order, which comes into force on 9 June 2017, will apply to the new road layout on the A1 constructed as a result of the A1 Elkesley Junctions Improvement Scheme.

For the purposes of this notice –

“the roundabout” means the circulatory carriageway at the roundabout junction of the slip roads leading to and from the southbound carriageway of the A1, the first link road and the second link road;

“the first link road” means the link road connecting the roundabout and Coalpit Lane,

“the second link road” means the link road connecting the roundabout and the roundabout junction with Jockey Lane; and

“the tip of the nosing” in respect of –

i) an exit slip road means the last point where the slip road leaves the carriageway; and

ii) an entry slip road means the first point where the slip road joins the carriageway.

The effect of the order will be to –

1. impose a 40 miles per hour speed on -

i) a length of the exit slip road leading from the southbound carriageway of the A1 to the roundabout, from a point 42 metres northeast of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the southbound carriageway, to its junction with the roundabout; and

ii) a length of the entry slip road leading to the southbound carriageway of the A1 from the roundabout, from its junction with the roundabout, to a point 38 metres northwest of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the southbound carriageway;

2. impose a 50 miles per hour speed limit on the southbound carriageway of the A1 from a point 472 metres southeast of the centrepoint of the underbridge of the first link road, to a point 106 metres southeast of the centrepoint of its junction with Old London Road, and

3. maintain the national speed limit on lengths of the A1 and connecting roads, that is –

i) the southbound carriageway of the A1 between points 445 metres northwest and 472 metres southeast of the underbridge of the first link road;

ii) a length of the exit slip road leading from the southbound carriageway of the A1 to its junction with the roundabout; from its junction with the southbound carriageway of the A1, to a point 42 metres northeast of the tip of the nosing at that junction;

iii) a length of the entry slip road leading to the southbound carriageway of the A1 from its junction with the roundabout; from a point 38 metres northeast of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the southbound carriageway of the A1, to its junction with the southbound carriageway,

which would otherwise be subject to a speed limit of 30 miles per hour as a result of the street lighting installed on those lengths, and

4. revoke The A1 Trunk Road (Elkesley, Nottinghamshire) (50 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Order 1997, insofar as it relates to the southbound carriageway of the A1. By revoking this order the unlit length of the southbound carriageway of the A1 between points 996 metres and 445 metres northwest of the underbridge of the first link road will be subject to the national speed limit.

A copy of the made Order, together with plans illustrating the proposals, a copy of the order to be revoked and a Statement of the Secretary of State’s reasons for making the Order, may be inspected during opening hours at Worksop Library, Memorial Avenue, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, S80 2BP; Bassetlaw District Council, Queen’s Buildings, Potter Street, Worksop, S80 2AH or may be seen at, or obtained by application to, Highways England, The Cube, 199 Wharfside Street, Birmingham, B1 1RN.
