On the 26th March 2015 in accordance with regulation 3(2) of The Local Government (Transitional, Incidental, Consequential and Supplemental Provisions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015, Antrim and Newtownabbey District Council resolved that the Charter of the corporation of Antrim Borough Council shall have effect in relation to the district of Antrim and Newtownabbey.  Therefore the new council will be known as Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council as of 1st April 2015.
