THE SCOTLAND RIVER BASIN DISTRICT (SURFACE WATER TYPOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS) (SCOTLAND) DIRECTIONS 2007

The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of powers conferred on them by section 40(1) and (2) of the Environment Act 1995, have given the above Directions to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) introducing new environmental standards for surface waters in the Scotland River Basin District.

The Directions set out the process by which SEPA will utilise the new standards in order to assist the achievement of Ministers’ aims for river basin management planning, and to meet our obligations under the Water Framework Directive. These standards support Ministers’ policy as set out in Principles for setting objectives for the River Basin Management Plan and Development of environmental standards and conditions, copies of which are available from the address below.

The Directions come into force on 1 October 2007. Copies of the Directions are available from the Scottish Government website at: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/publications/2007/10/02104453/0
