NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the A14 Trunk Road in Cambridgeshire to enable works associated with the construction of the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement Scheme, and routine maintenance works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to last until 2020 commencing on, or after Monday 10 July 2017, and would be carried out in phases using a combination of carriageway and slip road closures with traffic running on new temporary carriageway at times. A temporary mandatory speed limit would be in force at times in the interest of safety.

The Order would come into force on Monday 10 July 2017 and continue until 2020 when the work is completed.

For the purpose of this notice the A14 Junction 20 Ellington Interchange and the A14 Junction 21 Brampton Hut Interchange will be referred to as J20 and J21 respectively.

The effect of the Order would be to –

1. Impose for 24 hours daily, in conjunction with narrow lanes for the duration of the works, a speed limit of –

1.1 50 miles per hour on the A14 –

• eastbound from the J20 overbridge to a point 500 metres east of the J20 entry slip road, and

• westbound from the J21 Brampton Hut Roundabout to the J20 overbridge, and

1.2 40 miles per hour on the A14 –

• eastbound from a point 500 metres east of the J20 entry slip road to its junction with the J21 Brampton Hut Roundabout,

• lengths of eastbound and westbound temporary highway adjacent to the existing A14 1100 metres in length, and

• new permanent westbound carriageway from Brampton Hut Roundabout west for a distance of 1800 metres, and

2. close the –

• A14 eastbound and westbound carriageway between J20 and J21,

• newly constructed temporary and permanent carriageway adjacent to the A14 between J20 and J21,

• A14 eastbound entry slip road at J20, and

• A14 westbound exit slip road at J20.

Diversions – Eastbound traffic to be directed off the A14 at J13 via the A605 to A1(M) J17 and A1(M)/A1 southbound to the A14 J21. Non-motorway traffic to follow A1139, The Serpentine, A15, B1043, B1090 an A141. Diversions would be in place for local traffic.

The lay-bys adjacent to the A14 between J20 and J21 would be closed for 24 hours daily for the duration of the works. Access to properties fronting the A14 would be maintained at all times.

Cyclists and pedestrians would be prohibited from the lengths of closed carriageway described at 2 above during the works.

A vehicle width restriction of 3.25 (10’8”) metres in lane 1 and 2.5 metres (8’2”) in lane 2 would be imposed when narrow lanes are in operation, wide vehicles would be directed to straddle lanes.

The temporary mandatory speed limit (Which would not apply to emergency service or special force vehicles), closures (which would not apply to emergency service, traffic officer, winter maintenance or works vehicles) and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
