Appointment of royal commissions (1112)

What is this notice?

Advertising the appointment of royal commissions, the notice can specify the leader of the commission to be appointed, or an invitation to submit evidence to the inquiry or other matters pertaining to royal commissions.

The power to appoint royal commissions appears to be an ancient one (William the Conqueror's 1085 royal mandate leading to the creation of the Domesday Book is usually cited as the first example of a Royal Commission). The gazetting these appears to be convention, not statutory, nor codified anywhere.

Who places this notice?

Privy Council
