PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990, SECTION 69 UNDERDALE ROAD CONSERVATION AREA

Notice is hereby given under the provisions of the 1990 Act that Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council have determined that the area described in the Schedule to this notice is an area of special architectural or historic interest and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance its character and appearance. It has accordingly extended the Shrewsbury Town Centre Conservation Area to include the area. The principal effects of this area being included within this area are as follows: 1. The Council is required to formulate and publish proposals for the preservation and enhancement of the Conservation Area. 2. Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area. 3. Six weeks notice must be given to the Council before works are carried out to any trees in the area. 4. Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the Conservation Area. 5. In carrying out any functions under the Planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining planning applications and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area. P Jarratt, Director of Development Services Schedule To the north-west the boundary follows the base of the eastern bank of the River Severn. To the south the boundary follows the base of the railway embankment forming the triangle of the Severn Bridge Junction and includes the rear garden walls of No 2 Underdale Road, Nos 23-45 Tankerville Street and the hall on Monkmoor Road. The lower section of the eastern boundary lies at the back of the pavement on the east side of Monkmoor Road crossing to the northern edge of Ashley Street, then following the south-eastern perimeter fence of No 27 and the rear boundaries of Nos 1-27. The boundary then continues northwards following the rear boundaries of Nos 68-100 Underdale Road before continuing along the front perimeter walls of Nos 104-178 Underdale Road.
