LONDON BUS PRIORITY NETWORK IMPROVEMENTS TO BUS STOPS FOR LOW FLOOR BUSES
Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, having consulted with the London Borough of Hackney insofar as one of the above Orders relates to lengths of Hackney Road, on 20th April 2000, made the above-mentioned Orders under sections 6, 7(1), 45, 46, 49 and 124 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by section 8 of, and Part I of Schedule 5, of the Local Government Act 1985 and the Road Traffic Act 1991. The general effect of the Bus Stop Clearway Orders will be to provide Bus Stop Clearway restrictions to prohibit the stopping at any time, of any vehicle, except a bus providing a scheduled bus service, within the marked bus stop cages at existing bus stops in the following roads or lengths of road; Grove Road, Hackney Road, Bethnal Green Road, Cambridge Heath Road, Bazely Street, Cotton Street, Newby Place, West India Dock Road, Westferry Road, and Poplar High Street, between Newby Place and Cotton Street. Some of the existing bus stop cages with in the roads affected will be extended to a length of 37 metres. In line with government policy the proposed restrictions will ensure that low floor buses can arrive unimpeded at bus stops thereby enabling the safe boarding and alighting from the bus by the elderly, people with disabilities and wheel chair users. The general effect of the amendments to Parking Place Orders to accommodate the extended bus cages will be as follows: (a)(i) Hackney Road, the north side by Kay Street, remove 2 multi-bay parking spaces; (ii) Hackney Road, the south side by No. 16 Hadrian Estate, remove 2 multi-bay parking spaces; (iii) Hackney Road, the south side by Stouts Place, remove 1 parking meter bay; (b) Poplar High Street, north side by Bazely Street, remove 1 permit holder space; (c) Westferry Road, east side outside No. 257, remove 2 resident parking spaces; (d) Old Ford Road, south side Nos. 550-552, remove 1 resident parking space. A copy of each of the Orders which will come into operation on 8th May 2000, can be inspected, by prior appointment, at the offices of Customer Services, Traffic and Transportation Section or Parking Section, Southern Grove Lodge, Southern Grove, London E3 4PN, during normal office hours on Monday to Friday inclusive, until the expiration of a period of 6 weeks from the date on which the Orders were made. Any person desiring to question the validity of the Orders, or of any provision therein on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any of the relevant requirements thereof or any relevant regulations made thereunder have not been complied with in relation to either of the Orders, may within 6 weeks of the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
