CONVERSION OF EXISTING ZEBRA CROSSING TO PELICAN CROSSING

Notice is hereby given, that the London Borough of Merton, after consulting the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, propose to make the above-mentioned Orders under sections 6 and 124 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The general effect of the Orders will be to: (a) further amend The Merton (Waiting and Loading Restriction) Order 1977, so that no person shall cause or permit any vehicle to wait and/or load at any time from its junction with Western Road to its junction with Miles Road—Monday to Saturday 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. waiting restriction; (b) to introduce bus stop clearway restrictions operating at all times in, east side—from a point 1 metre north of northern flank wall of No. 296 Church Road to a point opposite the southern flank wall of No. 286 Church Road; and west side—from a point 3 metres north of party wall of Nos. 276-278 Church Road southwards for a distance of 45 metres; (c) to introduce free parking bays as listed in Schedule 1 to this notice; (d) to introduce a cycle lane as listed in Schedule 2 to this notice; (e) to convert an existing zebra crossing to pelican crossing in Church Road from its junction with Mount Road outside No. 260 Church Road; and (f) to introduce a loading bay from a point 5 metres south of property boundary of Nos. 260 to 262 southwards for a distance of 8 metres. Exemptions are provided in the Orders to permit vehicles to wait: (a) to enable passengers to board or alight and to load or unload their personal luggage; (b) for up to 20 minutes for the purpose of delivering and collecting goods or loading/unloading the vehicles at premises adjacent to the street; and (c) if they are being used to maintain the road or the services therein or by local authorities or the Post Office in pursuance of statutory powers and duties. A copy of the draft Orders, a plan identifying the area affected by the Orders and the Council’s statement of reasons for making the Orders can be inspected, during the Council’s normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays until 28th January 2000, at the main reception, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey. Any person desiring to object to the proposed Orders should send a statement in writing of their objections and the grounds thereof to the Environmental Services Department (Ref.
