The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 (S.R. 2006 No. 173)

Notice is hereby given that the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment in exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978, has made Regulations entitled The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006.

The Regulations would implement the following European Directives insofar as they apply to the carriage of dangerous goods other than explosives:-

•	94/55/EC relating to the transport of dangerous goods by road (as amended by Directives 2000/61/EC and Directive 2003/28/EC);
•	96/49/EC relating to the transport of dangerous goods by rail (as amended by Directives 2000/62/EC and 2003/29/EC);
•	1999/36/EC “the Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive”.

The Regulations would replace all, or substantially all, of the eleven sets of Regulations which currently apply to the carriage of dangerous goods. Instead of setting out the requirements in the Regulations themselves, the Regulations would refer directly to the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (“ADR”) and the Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Goods by Rail (“RID”) for the detailed requirements.

The Regulations come into operation on 1st August 2006.
