ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 15

THE M62 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 19 TO JUNCTION 26) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the M62 Motorway and the M606 Motorway, in the Counties of Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire, to enable central reserve and technology upgrade, digital motorway verge, drainage, survey, structure and routine maintenance works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Thursday 11 May 2023 and will remain in force until the works are completed, an estimated period of 27 months.

The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to:

(i) impose a temporary 60mph, 50mph and at times a 40mph speed restriction on the M62 eastbound carriageway from Heywood Interchange overbridge to the centreline of Chain Bar Roundabout, a distance of 39,700,000 metres;

(ii) impose a temporary 60mph, 50mph and at times a 40mph speed restriction on the M62 westbound carriageway from the centreline of Chain Bar Roundabout to Heywood Interchange overbridge, a distance of 39,700,000 metres;

(iii) close the M62 eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 19 (Heywood Interchange) to the entry slip road at Junction 26 (Chain Bar Roundabout), a distance of 40,800,000 metres;

(iv) close the M62 westbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 26 to the entry slip road at Junction 19, a distance of 40,800,000 metres;

(v) close the M62 eastbound entry slip road at Junction 19;

(vi) close the M62 eastbound and westbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 20 (Thornham Interchange), Junction 21 (Milnrow Interchange), Junction 22 (Rockingstone Moss Interchange) Junction 24 (Ainley Top Interchange) and Junction 25 (Clifton Interchange);

(vii) close the M62 eastbound exit and westbound entry slip roads at Junction 23 (Outlane Interchange);

(viii) close the M62 eastbound exit and westbound entry slip roads at Junction 26;

(ix) close the link road connecting the M606 southbound carriageway with the M62 westbound carriageway at Chain Bar Roundabout;

(x) close the M62 eastbound and westbound exit and entry slip roads at Birch Services and Hartshead Moor Services;

(xi) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6’6” and 9’6” to enter of proceed in any specified lanes of the above lengths of carriageway as described in (i) and (ii);

(xii) close the M62 eastbound carriageway from Heywood Interchange overbridge to the centreline of Chain Bar Roundabout, a distance of 39,700,000 metres, during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system; and

(xiii) close the M62 westbound carriageway from the centreline of Chain Bar Roundabout to Heywood Interchange overbridge, a distance of 39,700,000 metres, during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system.

During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available.

The works will also require lane closures, during which times the hardshoulder will be used for traffic adjacent to the above length of carriageway as described in (i) and (ii).

Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes).
